Gents! It is that time that I give you the up date as to what to expect regarding the trends for this fall and winter. Given the fact that Vogue highlighted a total of twenty two last month, I will only highlight a few that I've seen in the American market. This way, when you venture into your favorite store, you won't be alarmed because I've already told you so. Most of these are carryover from the Spring as I guess many of the designers just don't want to let them go. As we know, fashion repeats itself time after time, but hey...designers know what we are buying so they will continue to make it! I know, you're probably thinking, what does Paris Vogue have to do with American fashion, well that just it- the winter collections will set the tone for many of the fast-fashion stores that we shop at day-to-day. Anyway, lets get into it.
Logomania was the very first trend that designers are looking to label" us with. Yes, this means that it is cool again to wear the Burberry print or Louis Vuitton printed shirts, jackets and pants. We really saw much of this when Fendi resurfaced over this past summer. Our favorite celebs caught wind of what was to come and posted much of this to their various social media outlets.
One of the carryovers from this Spring that is expected to dominate the fall/winter is the XXL Shoulders. While at first glance out might assume that you have stepped into your grandfather's closet, but no...that's not it. The jackets and coats that you will see this year will in fact have the very wide shoulders that will reinforce the ideal that "you are 'the' man!" For those of you who enjoy Calvin Klein, this will definitely be noticeable.
Layering has never really gone anywhere, but one of the most familiar brands to the American market -Balenciaga- endorsed this trend. Listen, don't be like Mr. Ryan Carney Williams who this past January wore all of his clothes in a failed attempt not to pay British Airways those baggage fees. Use your imagination, yet stay within reason. Remember, fashion is you!
Now I am the bad guy when it comes to plaids and stripes; however your favorites like Alexander McQueen and Versace have made it cool to wear Checks. While this is Scottish inspired, I will make its way back to the American racks in high numbers. So gear up for your reds and greens guys!
I know many of my social media followers love their favorite childhood comic and cartoon characters. Well...you're in luck, cartoons are now a trend in which the runways welcomed this past August for our fall and winter selections. So this means that even the high fashion houses are welcoming your favorite toon character. As for the American market, you should expect a wide market for the comic strips and Looney Toon characters to be plastered on your tops.
My favorite go-to is in to stay! You've heard rap songs about this trend that took off. Caps adorned the run way and are a great way to "top off" your outfit. Whether its a beanie, a fedora, or baseball cap...you will be on trend this season! Have fun and enjoy.
I expressed earlier in this post about how I desperately dislike them; however, fashion is subjective either way. Pinstripes are here to stay! You should expect to see much of this in the major department stores and many of your favorite suit designers. Alexander McQueen and Versace displayed an array of options that were embodied by the pinstripes.
I will close our fall and winter trends out with this last option. Everyone knows I love a good coat. Well, leather coats are here for you to take a chance again. So, we can step away from our wool and polyester and move to the sleek and sexy leather coats. I am definitely going to jump on this trend and purchase me a leather overcoat this year.
Remember its all advice! I played with my fall look below for work.
