Greetings from New Jersey Gents! This particular blog submission is about lifestyle and less fashion. For the past few years, one of my closest friends has been trying to get me to go to this event. I would see the pictures of all the men and women dressed up in their finest of garbs with glasses and bottles of champagne in their hands. While it struck my interest, I was not tempted enough. However, I've had much more free time on my hand and have been living in a different head space, so I took him up on his offer!
On yesterday, I attended the 12th annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic held at Liberty State Park in New Jersey. If you're an advant champagne drinker then you are familiar with this brand that has been around since 1772. For the last 12 years, they have sponsored this particular polo match which is in turn a grand social event for almost all walks of life. So yes, regardless or your income status, if you buy a ticket and have some decent duds to put on, you are welcome. While I've never attended a polo match, this was an experience that I will work into my yearly events.
There are several options that you can choose with the purchasing of your ticket. Be sure to purchase your ticket on the day that they go on sale. AMEX members are offered earlier purchasing options. There are three ticket options that you may choose from. The first being the Rose' Garden, which came this year at a cost of $475. This experience affords you access to the Rose' Garden which hosts open lounge seating, a bottle of Veuve Clicquot Rose', a lunch, priority boarding on the ferry to/from Manhattan and shuttle service from New Jersey, and shorter lines to the dedicated champagne bar. The Early Access option is only $150 and allows you access to the first ferry that departs from Manhattan, two per person limited edition Veuve Clicquot flutes, a general admission ticket, and return on the ferry to Manhattan. The general admission ticket is the one that I utilized this year which cost from $90 to $130 pending your time of purchase. With it you get, admission into the event space and transportation to/from your respective departing location (Manhattan or New Jersey).
I would rate my experience a 10/10. I would advise that if you get the general admission ticket, you heed to the following advice that my friend shared with me before arriving. Because it was a group of us, we shared who would bring what. There is no liquor permitted into the venue from the outside. You are welcome to bring your own beverages. They are sticklers for coolers, so make sure yours doesn't "look like" a cooler. Bring foods that won't melt or go bad when exposed to the sun overtime: cookies, fruits, chips, jerky, nuts etc. If you don't want to sit directly on the ground with a blanket, there are few picnic tables next to the polo course and in the open eating area as you enter the venue. Remember you will be outside, so be sure to hydrate, have fun, and enjoy the atmosphere! Listen...this has gotten too long, and my fraternity brother is coming to get me for a Day Party in Brooklyn. Check out the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic hashtags on social media to get any ideas for dress. Enjoy and be great Gents!
